Who remembers having maicena cream made from their mother or grandmother? Yum! When we were kids, my mother always made us a warm bowl of this cereal. She came up with different ways to make it so we wouldn’t get bored of the same thing so she would add flavors like; strawberry, chocolate, banana and vanilla. Maicena cream is super easy to prepare and delicious!
Maicena Cream
Ingredients for one serving
1 cup of milk
4 teaspoons of cornstarch
2 teaspoons of sugar (to taste)
1 pinch of salt
½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 cinnamon stick
½ teaspoon of butter
Lemon zest opcional
Dilute the cornstarch in some of the milk you will use for the recipe.
Mix all the ingredients in a pot and stir constantly over medium heat until the mixture thickens.
You can serve it with some powdered cinnamon if you like.
¡Buen Provecho!
Did you know that La Maicena is a fine corn flour or cornstarch? Its also spelled maizena or maizina which are the commercial brand.
It was commercially registered in 1856 and was obtained by Corn Products Refining Co. in 1900. Maizena is used throughout the world and became the go-to cornstarch.
At the start of the XX century, Maizena was the first home-use product elaborated by Refinerías de Maíz, today known as Unilever Bestfoods.

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing. I was a very, very small child when my grandmother made this. She passed away before I could get a hold of any of her «on the fly» recipes. But, I’m certain that this is as close as I’m gonna get!
